Stalybridge Estate -
rugged charm and character
Nestled in peaceful Lancashire and Cheshire countryside.
Located amongst the principle towns of Stalybridge, Mossley, Mottram and Ashton-under-Lyne, and extending into the Peak moors, the Stalybridge Estate retains the charm of its rugged landscape, where the moorlands give way to the towns and villages beyond. The Industrial Mill town of Ashton-under-Lyne, lies to the South East of Manchester, and was extensively developed by the 5th Earl of Stamford in the late 18th century. Wool spinning, traditionally a cottage industry in the surrounding hilly areas, saw the town expand with the onset of the industrial revolution. It is a planned town, reflected in the grid pattern of streets, many named after family members and places on other estates.
Traditionally the Earl of Stamford and Warrington’s Lancashire Estate, the area has a longstanding association with grouse shooting which thrive on the natural heather found on the moors. Nestled on the edge of the Pennines, the Stalybridge estate combines the tranquility of rural life, with the convenience of its surrounding towns.
